Frequently Asked Questions
What are
jumping stilts?
Jumping stilts are spring-loaded boots. They are like a cross between
stilts and a pogo-stick. The stilt basically consists of two parts: An
aluminum frame that you attach to your shoes with snowboard bindings
and around your knees with a strap. Second part is a flat and bent
fiberglass spring. The construction is made very light but it can still
take a bit of time to get used to the extra weight.
What can you do
with jumping stilts?
Just to walk on them is the first challenge, this normally takes about
5 to 15 minutes to learn. After overcoming this first challenge you can
go on to learning to jump, stride and run. With a bit of training you
can jump 2 meter in the air, take 9 foot strides, run 20mph and why not
do a back flip while your at it if you can.
Who can use
jumping stilts?
Anyone can do it, its easy!!
There are jumping stilts models for children weighing 30kg all the way
to adults weighing over 100kg. The youngest user I know of using
jumping stiltss is six years old and the oldest person is 53 years old.
Why use Jumping Stilts?
The main reason is that
its fun.
There are also a lot of tricks to do so you will always have something
new to learn. A lot of people also like the attraction that powerising
attracts. Be prepared to answer a lot of questions from people passing
by if you jump in public places. This is also a great way of training
its hard work but also it's so much fun at the same time so you wont
even notices how tired you are. You work both cardiovascular and
muscular, the biggest muscle groups are the quads and the seat muscle.
They do the heavy work of gaining height and speed. Muscles also very
important it the deep muscles in the stomach and the lower back. If you
try to keep a good posture as you jump you will strengthen this muscles
and get a better posture and a flat stomach as a bonus.Don't forget to
stretch after every time you have been using them, quads, seat muscles,
hip flexors, upper and lower back.
How high off the ground will I be standing?
Once you are strapped into the Adult Fly Jumper Jumping Stilts you will
be approximately 17 inches off the ground.
What weight
range of spring should I buy?
The spring weight system on jumping stilts is designed for ease of use
as well as safety. When a powerbocker uses jumping stilts, the springs
compress to send the person into the air. If the spring compresses too
much, it could fail which could then cause an injury. You will avoid
this problem by choosing the correct model spring within your weight
range. You can move up in weight class but you should NEVER use a pair
of stilts with a spring below your weight range. If you are very
experienced, you may move to a spring for someone heavier if you would
like to jump higher. However please note that the stiffer the spring is
the more impact you will receive when landing. A spring that is for
your weight will compress naturally when you land but a stiffer spring
will require a lot of added force in order to compress. That means,
that if you are just getting into the sport, you should purchase the
spring for your weight range. If you become a lot better then you can
later upgrade to a stiffer spring.
I have been
told that I should move above my weight rating, is this advisable?
Some Powerbockers move up in weight range to get a stiffer spring. The
stiffer springs allows them to get more height (i.e. for layout
backflips). However, the stiffer spring will seem very stiff when being
used for regular recreational activity. It is sort of like having a
sport-suspension on a car. When you are driving competitively you
appreciate the stiffer suspension. However, it can be a little bit much
when it comes to the daily commute. Our advise is to stay within your
weight rating when starting off. Then, if you want to move up in weight
rating, you can simply purchase replacement springs from our parts
sections.
Can I really
run 20 MPH?
The answer is yes, it is possible to run this run this fast with ease
on Fly Jumpers. Jumping Stilts have been considered for military
application. One particular set of stilts was tested by the US Air
Force. The user maintained an average speed of 23 MPH over ¼
mile distance, while chasing a military quad.
What is the difference between the Adult Standard Fly Jumpers and the
Fly Jumper Pro?
These two stilts are similar, however, the Pro model does have some
more hardware enhancements. The most noteworthy difference on the Pro
model is the pivoting footplate. The Pro model footplate pivots to
replicate the normal ankle movement experienced while running. The Pro
model also features improved bindings, an aluminum (instead of a
plastic) footplate, and steel (instead of plastic) ball bearings. The
Pro model also includes improved hardware components however the
Standard model has a footplate that can easily be replaced
with snowboard bindings and is easily upgradeable. Also, all Fly Jumper
springs are interchangeable with the original Powerskip springs from
Germany.
